Everton Molweni Trail now open

2016-11-22 06:00

THE Everton Conservancy opened the Everton Molweni trail on Saturday 19 November.

The trail starts at the Acutts Drive bridge on the Molweni stream and runs up stream about 1,5kms to the Everton Falls where it crosses the river and returns downstream back to the Acutts Drive bridge.

The trail is about three kilometres, takes about one hour to walk, and winds through riverine bush where you may see Crowned Eagle, Narina Trogon, possibly Bushbuck or Water Mongoose.

The trail is for walkers and for trail runners. The upstream section is the first phase of a trail run, which will be extended by a further three kilometres of a down-stream trail to Porcupine Falls and back to the Acutts Drive bridge.

Tony Kee of the Everton Conservancy said: “We are very fortunate to have very special nature trails on our doorstep. The trails are ideal for family runs or walks. The Molweni river is a pristine clean river running through Kloof sandstone and is home to an endangered frog, the Kloof Frog.”
