Durban - SA Community Crime Watch received a call from one of their members on their combined services WhatsApp group on Saturday January 14 requesting help after a intruder was discovered on their property in Key Ridge Road Shongweni.

According to SACCW founder Steven King, the suspect then attacked the owner of the property and a scuffle ensued.

“The suspect had a knife and tried to stab the owner. His wife tried to assist by hitting the suspect with her paintball gun as their little boy stood by helpless,” he said.

The man eventually fled.

However, within minutes of the call coming through to SACCW, SAPS Hillcrest, Shongweni K9, ER24, PMB Flying Squad, Drummond Farm Watch, Careline Crisis & Trauma Centre and Metro K9 was mobilised to the area. A search took place for the beaten suspect, but he is still at large.

The owner of the property was taken for a checkup and the family received counselling. King thanked the role players for the response and wished the family a speedy recovery.

“Without such a speedy response the ordeal could have ended in tragedy.”
