THE Friends of the Kloof Library Forum will host former South African Davis Cup tennis champion and writer, Gordon Forbes, who will present a talk “I’ll take the sunny side”, on June 4 at 6 pm in the Kloof Junior Primary School hall.

Forbes and Rod Laver took the tennis world by storm in the fifties and early sixties.

It was the story of their experiences on the tennis circuit of the time which prompted his first book, A handful of Summers, which was laden with wit and colourful characters, and was hailed globally as the best tennis book written.

Gordon has now published his third book, I’ll Take the Sunny Side”, which is a memoir about many things — tennis, friendship, storytelling and growing older.

Forbes has joined seven friends for the seniors’ lunch in the Rainbow Room at the Johannesburg Country Club for several years. They are a group of learned men, writers, scholars and ex-editors: great characters, all of them.

This book is inspired by their meandering conversations and arguments, and is liberally dosed with wit and humour.

Forbes will be engaging us all with his talk and copies of his book will be on sale for R250.

Tickets are R35 for members of Friends of Kloof Library and R50 for the public.

Book at the library at 031 764 7543.

Payment for tickets are to be made at the door, please.
