CHRISTMAS — a time when communities are abuzz with excitement and cheer. Children are happy as they know “Santa will pay them a visit” and they will receive gifts during this special time of year.

Yet for some that do not have loved ones, its an ordinary day that does not bring any excitement.

However, one Upper Highway eight-year-old resident with a heart for hope, Amy Corden, took it upon herself to bring cheer for all children this Christmas season.

Amy said she’s putting together Santa Gift Boxes to deliver to different crèches during the Christmas holidays.

She explained that she founded Heart for Hope when she decided to do the NB (Necessity Bag) bags for children who were in need.

“I had asked my teacher if we could start a club at school for all the children who wanted to come together and do projects to raise funds and goodies to give to those children who needed it most,” she said.

“We have 44 members now in our club who come together every Friday. We pray together, sing and talk about ways in which we can make a difference. We also visit the crèches on a bi-weekly basis where we spend time just loving all these beautiful children,” added Amy.

The eight-year-old said that, in order for her Santa Gift Boxes project to be a success, she needs sponsors and donations of the goodies that are going to be put in the box.

“I am appealing for sponsorships or donations of the goodies we need to make up the Santa Gift boxes. These items are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, facecloths, soap, educational toys and sweets,” she said.

In conclusion, Amy pleaded with the public to help her make a difference in the lives of the children who don’t have what others have every day.
