June marks the start of a new era for Waterfall SUPERSPAR as long-time store owner Des Quin, has finally decided to “hang up his hat” and settle into retirement.

For more than four decades the store’s founding family, the Quins, have become a household name in the neighbourhood.

From their excellent service, to compassion and patronage, Des Quin, his son Shaun and his family, have done it all. They always put customers and the community first and make sure that everyone leaves the store with smiles on their faces.

For Quin, this was the hardest decision he could make, yet he said it was time for a change and assures the community that the new owner, Theo Christodoulou, and the store will continue with the sterling work that Waterfall SUPERSPAR is known for.

Speaking to the Fever, Quin said this was a bittersweet time for him as Waterfall SUPERSPAR was defined as a place where people come “home” and where people really build relationships, however, he said that it was the right time to move forward.

“My son Shaun, joined me in the business 10 years ago, and it was my dream for him to continue after I’ve left but he got an even better offer, which he couldn’t turn down and has since relocated to Cape Town.

“This left me with a tough decision to make, however, when I met the Christodoulou family, I knew the store was in capable hands.”

Quin thanked the community for an amazing 40 years of career trading as a member of SPAR on the highway and for the great years of working with them: “I was now serving the third generation families in the same community so from that point of view, it’s been very special for me.

“I will continue to be a part of this community as I will still be living and shopping here.”

The Quins wished the Christodoulou family well in their new venture.

The stores new owner, Theo Christodoulou said he is excited for this opportunity. Christodoulou said that the community shouldn’t worry because they know how to run a family orientated business as they own other SPAR stores in other areas.

“We understand our people and we want to work with them. We put our customers’ needs first.” Christodoulou said that they will also continue all the community initiatives that Waterfall SUPERSPAR was associated with.

“I hope we can work towards an exciting new future together,” Christodoulou said.
