GOGO Mana Ngcobo is known to many in KwaNyuswa as the “mother who has a heart of gold”.

She offers her help wherever she is needed, and has spent many days volunteering with Bianca Ivankovic at her feeding scheme in the KwaNyuswa Valley.

However, late last year, Ngcobo broke her ankle and is now unable to continue her daily service to her community. To add to her woes, the roof of her home was destroyed during the torrential rains which hit the province last year.

“Gogo used to help with planting and making food for the people whenever we had tutorials, but now she can’t help with anything and the conditions she’s living under are heartbreaking,” said Ivankovic.

Ivankovic said she’s trying to get sponsors to build Ngcobo a new home because the one she’s living in is now falling apart.

“She’s living in a mud house that can fall apart anytime and the zinc that’s used as her roof is not safe. There’s a tent that covers the zinc and it has holes in it. She also uses blocks to hold it in place,” said Ivankovic.

Ngcobo added that she would appreciate any help that she can get as she lives alone and cannot afford to fix the damage to her home.

“My monthly expenses are too much and I live only on a pension. In addition, it costs me R400 to hire a taxi to drive me around and to volunteer my services. I also have to buy groceries for myself and I cannot afford to think of anything else. I hope the community can open their hearts to assist me,” she said.

Ivankovic pleaded with the community to help Ngcobo as she is always giving back to the community and it’s time the community gives back to her.

“We want to rebuild gogo’s home and offer assistance towards her daily expenses. I hope the community is able to assist,” she said. Anyone who’s willing to help can contact 073 290 9816.
