EXPAND a Sign supports the Uzwelo Bags initiative that was launched in 2010 to help previously disadvantaged women from the Uzwelo community in KwaZulu-Natal.
Uzwelo, which means ‘compassion’, is a social responsibility initiative started by Expand a Sign to primarily create a community engagement opportunity to up-skill and create self-employment for ladies and gentlemen who are presently unemployed or unable to gain employment.

Secondary, but equally vital to this brand, is a contribution to The Bateleurs organisation that “fly for conservation”.
A percentage of all sales will be donated to this organisation and thereby assist with caring for the wildlife and environment of South Africa.

These women are provided with sewing machines and materials required to manufacture bags.
Expand a Sign donates their fabric off-cuts from their banner-making business towards this initiative and further support this programme by buying bags to donate to underprivileged schools, government hospitals and other organisations.

There are five catergories of the Uzwelo Bags, The Uzwelo Shopping Bag – a basic shopper bag, Uzwelo Chic – laptop bags, overnight bags and back packs – all made with additional lining and leather straps, Uzwelo Heavy Duty Bags – a rustic and rugged range of bags ideal for outdoor, bush and camping fanatics, Uzwelo Suitcase Covers – specifically made for travel suitcases to protect the bag, stop the bag from being tampered with at airports and for easy identification when going around the carousal at the airport and Uzwelo trolley bags – a four bag divider for shopping trolleys to organise your shopping, making it easier to pack and unpack groceries without having to use plastic bags.
