ST Mary’s School is extremely proud of its groundsman, Bheki Khumalo (35033), for living his Comrades dream and completing the run in 7:9:3.

He has added another silver medal to his collection and placed 218 overall, running an average of 4.75 minutes/km. Khumalo has run 14 Comrades and won six silver medals, seven Bill Rowan medals and a bronze.

The ambitious jack-of-all-trades story touched the hearts of many, including the St Mary’s DSG, Kloof Grade 12 girls who raised funds to help him participate in this year’s race.

The Grade 12 girls called this “Operation 35033” and this paid for Khumalo’s entry, training and running shoes, clothing and health supplements.

Lisa Abbott, marketing and communications administrator at St Mary’s said the school is extremely proud of Khumalo.

“He ran a strong race and stuck to his race strategy to finish within his planned time. Thanks to all the supporters from the St Mary’s family who were there along the route to cheer him on.
“Thank you to SA Natural Products [Bio-Strath] for sponsoring a bag of products to further ready Bheki for his big race yesterday. “Congratulations to staff members, Solly Nzima [35003], who completed his race in 11:11:32, and Gail Main [53747], who finished in 11:16:1.

“Outstanding achievements in the ultimate human race - we are so proud of all of you,” she added.
