THE Muddy Princess will be hosted for a second time this year at the Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park, in Pinetown, on Sunday, August 26.

Fever spoke to Muddy Princess spokesperson Areesh Bassardien to find out more about the event.

NM [Nosipho Mkhize]: When was Muddy Princess established and by whom?

AB [Areesh Bassardien]: Muddy Princess was founded by Sandra Loosen and Frank Zaechel in Cape Town in February 2016.

NM: What was the purpose of this event?

AB: There are a lot of mud runs around at the moment but we found that they tend to be incredibly competitive and fast paced.

We realised that there was an opportunity to create a run that was more focused on fun, team building and dressing up and that provided women with an opportunity to experience the adventure of a mud run without the pressure of finishing fastest.

NM: Who can join Muddy Princess?

AB: We cater to women only! It’s not that we are trying to exclude men, but we wanted to create a safe environment for women of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels to experience the fun and exhilaration of a mud run without the competitiveness that often comes with the opposite sex.

NM: Tell me about the last event in Pinetown?

AB: Our last event in Pinetown was in February and we had 2215 “princesses” complete our course.

We always find it difficult to brag about our successes so we’ll let a “princess” speak on our behalf.

Melanie Nicholls had this to say about our Pinetown event: “Amazing day out. Such fun and so well organised. Definitely doing again.”

NM: Why did Muddy Princess made a comeback in Pinetown?

AB: We just love the community spirit and comradery of the ladies in KZN.

It’s such a privilege to be able to bring them an event where they can get out and about, have some fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery that the Giba Gorge MTB Park offers.

NM: How do people benefit from being part of Muddy Princess?

AB: We have found that we are the first choice for ladies who have never done a mud run before and are looking to have a new experience.

Our “princesses” love the team spirit and support they receive, not just from our enthusiastic volunteers, but from other “princesses” running the course with them.

Our event is about creating once in a lifetime memories, having fun and celebrating the power of women.

NM: Where can people get more information?

AB: For more information, and to
