REECE Olsen (10) is fortunate enough to be one of the 52 boys chosen to go on tour with the Drakensberg Boys Choir School to Europe from May 2 to May 14.

The Assagay-born lad was in his school choir at primary school up until Grade 4, and when the Drakensberg Boys Choir came to perform at Hillcrest Curro School, he decided to audition.

Reece’s mother, Tanya, has been trying to raise funds for her son so that he can go on tour. “Reece started singing at primary school and in 2016, the Drakensberg Boys Choir came to Hillcrest and put on a performance with all of the local schools. We went to watch the concert and during interval, Reece told us that he had been auditioned and we would get an e-mail from the marketing person,” said Tanya.

She said they were then invited to the school for an open weekend where the boys underwent an academic assessment, vocal auditions and got to spend a night in the boarding school.

“Shortly after, we received an e-mail advising us that he had been accepted,” said Tanya.

Tanya has now been raising funds for her son and she said she would appreciate any form of donation they can get.

“We are still short of R7 000, and also funds for a bag and suit bag would be an added bonus. Even if they are donated, that would be greatly appreciated too,” said the mother.
