IT is very difficult for a pupil to fulfil his or her academic potential if he or she lacks the basic needs like food, clothing and health care.

The Angel Fund at Hillcrest High School was established to assist pupils in financial need. In order to enable maximum concentration at school, the Angel Fund ensures that no child goes hungry at school.

The Angel Fund committee activities are co-ordinated by a group of four teachers and a dedicated group of pupils. This committee engages in regular fund-raising activities.

Hillcrest High School’s marketing and public relations staffer Nicola L. Kidgell said that the bulk of the funds raised is directed towards providing lunches for needy pupils. Hillcrest High also assists pupils who cannot access medical care. “In addition, we provide stationery and second-hand school clothes to those who cannot afford these. We have also assisted pupils’ families with groceries until their circumstances have improved,” she said. To raise funds for this cause, the school hosted the Angel Tea drive on March 3.
