MISS Grand South Africa 2017, Yajna Debideen, a 23-year-old audiology honours student from Yellowwood Park and part-time model with GSA Models, asked Hillcrest designer Warren Morck of MorQ Designs to create her national costume for the Miss Grand International pageant that was held in Vietnam last week.
Morck and Debideen worked together on coming up with the amazing design.
“The focus was to create an eye-catching, local look with the elements that make up our beautiful country. The zebra and leopard print skirt with feathered hemline, featuring a print of former president Nelson Mandela, the big five, and the map of Africa was a high-light.

“Zulu shields on a flesh coloured top with black spots depicting leopard spots, Zulu beaded necklace and bracelets.
“On the back were two fake rhino horns with hand-stitched SA flags in satin which Debideen swished around dramatically. To top it off was the zebra print African hat adorned with another shield, feathers in the flag’s colours, and porcupine quills,” said Morok.

The finals of the Miss Grand International took place on October 25.
