A Blue Security armed response officer arrested an armed robber who broke into a business premises in Hillcrest last week.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the officer had responded swiftly to the scene of a business burglary in Inanda Road just as a gang of three suspects was attempting to flee with stolen goods. The incident occurred at around 4am.

“The officer noticed three suspects carrying stolen goods along the railway line and gave chase together with two back up officers. The suspects were cornered near the taxi rank and became aggressive, pulling out their knives. The officer managed to arrest one of the suspects and took him back to the business premises,” Mathios said.

“A cash register which the burglars had stolen from the premises was recovered and handed back to the owner,” Mathios said.

Mathios said upon investigation it was found that the suspects had gain entry into the premisses by removing a window pain and climbing in.

Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
