EVEN when things got rough she didn’t think of giving up and with courage and determination, Savannah Almeida aims to pursue what she loves, which is a career in dancing.

The Hillcrest dancer will be jetting off to Orlando in Florida and New York to strut her stuff on an international stage from August 20 to September 1, at the International Arts Talent Search, to perform in front of top agencies, where she will be modelling, dancing and acting.

In addition, Almeida (20) has entered a competition to be the face of Just You, which is the agency she is signed under, which is looking for the face to represent the agency.

Over 600 applicants entered and she was selected for the top 100 and she is now appealing to the community to vote for her to be in the top 25.

Almeida said that it was a hard road to the top but that with prayer she was able to overcome a lot of challenges in her career.

Almeida started dancing at the age of five at the Maris Stella Dance school and then moved to the KZN Dance Centre, which is a school in Hillcrest, where she completed her amateur training and exams.

“I’m an experienced dancer in ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and now I’m training in ballroom and Latin,” she said.

She won the tap bursary twice in a row at the Natal Dance Festival in 2015 and 2016.

“In 2016, I won the gold higher tap bursary which was hosted by the Association of International Dance, as well as various other awards and medals. Also, in 2017 I was crowned the overall best performer at Talent Africa,” she said.

“To make it into the top 25, the public has to vote for me and if I win, I’ll get a 12-month modelling contract in New York and will represent my country,” she said.

To vote for Almeida, people can SMS “045” to 35224 and can also follow her on instagram at savannah
