Hillcrest resident arrested for murder

HILLCREST SAPS received a report about a missing 69-year-old man on 18 February.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer Constable N. Manqele said a case of the missing person was opened and the docket was allocated to the detectives for further investigation.

“Police received a tip-off about a man who was in possession of the pension card and the pin code of the old man that was reported missing. Members went to said address where they found the suspect (20) with the pension card of the missing person,” said Manqele.

“The suspect was taken to the station for questioning. A case of murder was opened and the suspect admitted to the allegations.”

Manqele said the suspect informed the police about the killing of the old man and that he had burnt the body.

“The suspect took the police to the scene of crime where the ashes and the skeleton bones was recovered.”

The skeleton bones and the ashes were taken to Pinetown Mortuary for forensic investigation.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Hillcrest acting station commander Colonel A Myburgh commended the good work done by the members and the investigations conducted in solving this case.
