ON Thursday Hillcrest SAPS, Shongweni K9 Unit and Community Policing Forum members arrested a suspect that has been terrorising businesses in Botha’s Hill.
Police received intelligence via the CPF of two men who were spotted carrying suspected stolen goods. Police mobilised various units to the area and were able to track them down. When the suspects spotted the police they fled. One man was arrested while the other managed to escape. It is believed the arrested suspect is linked to a number of burglaries in Botha’s Hill and surrounding areas. He is expected to be charged and appear in court soon.
In another operation conducted on Thursday, Crime Intelligence and Visible Policing members from Inanda received intelligence of a wanted man at Ezimangweni area, Inanda. When police arrived in the area the suspect opened fire on the officers. Police returned fire and the suspect was shot on his leg. He was apprehended and taken to hospital. Police seized his firearm, which will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of any crimes. He was wanted for cases of car hijacking, business robberies and house robberies in the Inanda and Ntuzuma areas. The 20-year-old suspect will be charged and is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court soon.
The KZN police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police for their diligence in arresting these wanted criminals. “We appreciate the assistance provide by the community through the CPF. Criminals must realise that the community will not allow them to operate freely in their neighbourhoods and they will be reported to police. We once again appeal to our communities not to buy stolen and counterfeit goods as it contributes to criminality,” she said. - Supplied.
