CHILDREN from Vulingqondo, a school for migrant and less privileged children living in the South of Durban, were given a wonderful treat by Hirsch’s Hillcrest recently.

The Hirsch family, who have been instrumental in keeping the school well-funded over the years, organised a visit to Sea World for them. Needless to say, the look of awe on the faces of the children when they were taken around this watery haven, was something never to be forgotten.

Principal of the school, Sandra McLaren said, “This was a wonderful outing for the children. The Hirsch family have been so generous and really instrumental in keeping the school afloat and helping us fullfil our vision, which is to provide an affordable education for the poorest of the poor and to make the school a privileged school for underprivileged children. I am so grateful to be part of this vision,” she said.

The school tries to do 10 outings a year. “I believe they will learn so much from each outing. This age group learn through their five senses so they need the experiences,” McLaren added.
