THE annual SPAR Kearsney Striders 21.1km and 10km marathon took place on Sunday 21 January at 6am.

All participants began at Kearsney College and ran a “hilly” loop through Botha’s Hill, up into Alverstone, passed the Alverstone Tower, down the hill and onto Kassier Road.

The runners had a tough end to their marathon by running up the steep, notorious Botha’s Hill and finishing off back at Kearsney College.

Grant Nicholls, Managing Director of the Main Group of SPARS always hosts a water table on route beneath the Alverstone Tower. He is a Kearsney Striders runner himself and will be running his third Comrades Marathon in June 2018. The runners were treated to a refreshing spray of water which is provided by kind local farmer Peter on the route, as well as much needed beverages. Main SPAR, Sarnia SPAR, Escombe KWIKSPAR and Hillary SPAR are proud sponsors of this annual event. - Supplied
