KERRY Ingredients, based in Hillcrest, held their annual Golf Day at Mount Edgecombe Golf Estate and the proceeds were generously donated to local non-profit organisation Focus on iThemba recently.

“Our team at Focus on iThemba is overwhelmed and are incredibly grateful for the generous donation of R 130 000 from Kerry Ingredients and friends towards our ‘Project Joy’ initiative,” explained Focus on iThemba Donor Relations Manager Tayla-Anne Goss. “These funds will go towards our drive to erect three recycled container classrooms for Entokozweni Crèche, located just five minutes from our iThemba Campus in Hillcrest.”

Entokozweni means ‘Abundant Joy’ in isiZulu however the current crèche set-up poses challenges. The crèche is in an existing church building which is cramped, dark and has poor ventilation. The teachers are required to pack up the school every Friday and set up again on Monday so the church can function over the weekends.

“The projects at Focus on iThemba appealed to our team, especially the element of investing in early childhood education,” explained Greg Matthews, Key Accounts Manager at Kerry Ingredients. “Kerry Ingredients aims to be a world leader in taste and nutrition serving the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries and we are grateful to have the opportunity to make a difference in 50 children’s lives at this crèche and for many more children going forward.”

Main collaborators in this project to date include Container World, Bidvest SACD, Belgotex, Cotswold Downs and now, with the support of Kerry Ingredients, the date to break ground and start the build is one step closer.
