Kloof to host talk with controversial SA cartoonist

YOUTH Education and Support Trust (YES Trust) will be hosting a talk by Jonathan Shapiro, popularly known as Zapiro, at St Agnes Church, Kloof, on Sunday, October 28 at 6pm.

The talk will be entitled “Careful - this pen is loaded”.

Zapiro is a renowned cartoonist whose brilliant cartoons have been printed in the press and his own publications. He has published 22 best selling annuals and three special collections: The Mandela Files, Vuvuzela Nation and DemoCrazy. He will talk about these cartoons and the stories behind them .

Zapiro is widely acknowledged as an important social commentator who has consistently promoted human rights and democratic values during both the apartheid and the democratic eras in South Africa.

His talk will include a power point presentation, during which he will enact his cartoons in a lively and entertaining style.

Zapiro’s books will be on sale at the talk.

YES Trust is a registered non-profit organisation which supports dedicated and promising students from disadvantaged backgrounds. All proceeds from the talk will go towards educational bursaries.

Tickets are available from Computicket at R150 per person.
