THE Provincial Task Team, eThekwini Inner South Crime Intelligence and National Mobile Train Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation in the Clermont and KwaDabeka policing area aimed at eradicating the propagation of illegal firearms on Wednesday 16 November.
Police went to T section in Sub 5 where they arrested two men aged 33 and 34 and confiscated two firearms. A 34-year-old man was arrested at Sizwe Mdlalose Road after he was found with a R5 rifle with 26 live rounds of ammunition in his possession. Police proceeded to Khululeka Road where a 33-year-old man was found with a pistol and was also arrested. Both firearms had serial numbers filed off.
The suspects were taken to Kwa-Dabeka police station for detention and were charged for possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition. They will appear, at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa applauded the members on the seizure.
“Firearms will be subjected for ballistic testing to ascertain whether they were used in the commission of crime. Similar operations will continue in the province to prevent serious and violent crimes,” he said.
