A 37-year-old man Vusikhaya
Edward from KwaDabeka has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl recently.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said that in March 2016, the victim was cleaning her home when Edward visited to load electricity on the metre unit.

“The victim opened the door for Edward and when he finished loading the electricity, he raped the victim,” said Gwala.

Captain Gwala said that only after the mother of the victim noticed her strange behaviour, she questioned her and she (the victim) told her she had been repeatedly raped by Vusikhaya.

A case was opened at KwaDabeka police station and it was investigated by the Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The accused appeared in court several times until he was convicted.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki has welcomed the sentences and applauded the great detective work done by the officers who ensured that the perpetrators of such wicked crimes are brought to justice. — Supplied.
