SNEGUGU Mgobhozi also known as “Imbongikazi KaMavilakazi” is a 21-year-old who was motivated to being a poet from a young age after seeing the challenges the young and women face every day.

She started being a poet in Grade 3 at Egoli Primary School. That’s when her primary school teachers noticed she had a talent in this area and started to groom and shape her.

Mgobhozi is also a prominent isiZulu poet as through her journey she has recite her poems on radio from 2012.

“I have been heard on various radio stations including Imbokodo 96.8 FM, Itheku FM, Nanda 88.4 FM and Highway 101.5 FM.

“I have performed at numerous events in and outside the province including a performance in Pretoria in Attridgeville and at Moses Mabhida Peoples Park on Africa Day in 2015.”

In 2017 she was discovered by Think Fresh Consulting, a company that grooms young, aspiring upcoming talent in KZN. She is now working under the company and is the key to advising the youth because the company also holds workshops for KZN artists.

Mgobhozi is not only a poet, she also educates young artists at workshops hosted by Think Fresh Consulting, which also promotes events.

“Young people must benefit from this knowledge and be wise minded.

“I motivate and educate artists about poetry and how to behave on this industry, especially new upcoming artist.”

When asked who she looks up to Mgobhozi said: “I am motivated and inspired by Zion kaMkhono Vilakazi and Nonhle Indoni Mkhize who are also into poetry.

“I take this as a beginning of my journey as I believe that I still have a long way to go in this industry. I’m currently doing my first-year diploma in Public Relations at the University of Zululand.”

Mgobozi will be performing at Izigi zaba Profethi Poetry vs Gospel concert on Friday 2 February 2018taking place at Zwelibomvu at the St Lukes Anglican Church.

So far Snegugu has written her isiZulu poems titled Kunezimiso ezingafezwanga, Bamfake naye wangena ntshi otshwaleni, Emanxiweni akathando kuleli dumbu ngokungenhloso, Ukufa komzimba and Noma sengalifela iqiniso Sthandwa sami –Kulungile
