Man jailed for possession of unlicensed firearm

A 29-YEAR-OLD suspect Sphamandla Innocent Nxele was convicted and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment by Camperdown Magistrate’s Court of which four years were suspended for five years for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Pinetown communication officer Warrant Officer BJ Manqele said: “On 11 January, 2012 at Pietermaritzburg Tactical Response Team members were working in Mpumalanga Township when they received information about a person who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm in George Dale area.
“The members proceeded to the address and upon arrival they searched the house of the accused and a 38 special revolver with five live rounds of ammunition was found. The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The accused made several appearances in court until he was finally convicted and sentenced.”
