THE St Francis College soccer team will be going on the Manchester Tour in England from April 11 to 17. A member of the parents’ committee appointed to co-ordinate the tour, Mandisa Zungu said the team is in dire need of sponsorship.

She said the school said it does not have the capacity to make the tour a reality, thus the tour would have to be funded totally by parents.

“We have to purchase 36 air tickets for the 29 soccer players, and seven adults who will be accompanying the team.

“We also have applied and paid for Visas as well as paid a deposit for accommodation, but we are still short of R230 000 for accommodation, which is a critical item requiring urgent funding.

“We have been trying to get sponsorship from various sources, however our attempts have not yet yielded much.

“We would welcome any kind of support as there are other elements still outstanding.

“Support could be financial, soccer kit, tracksuits, sports bags and other soccer equipment.”

The team’s key highlights include being the KwaZulu-Natal 2015 Copa Coca-Cola champions, runners-up in the same Cup in 2016, 2015 Kloof Tournament semi-finalists, taking fourth position in the tournament, they were bronze medal winners in 2016 in the same tournament where they took third place.

“The team was also the 2016 Brettenwood Tournament champions in which eight teams participated.

“They were the 2016 champions of KwaNdengezi Community Tournament sponsored by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sports and Recreation as well as the 2016 champions of Ntee High School Tournament in which 20 teams participated.”

St Francis College will host a fund-raising and send-off dinner on Saturday April 1 at 6pm which will go towards the Manchester Tour fund-raising and the community is invited.”
