Murder suspects caught with stolen vehicle

ETHEKWINI Inner and Outer West SAPS arrested four suspects aged between 22 and 36 for hijacking, murder and house robbery last week.

Three suspects were found in the vehicle they had allegedly used in the commission of a house robbery in Empangeni and a Westville murder.
It is alleged that on 5 November the gunmen accosted a homeowner in Chearsley Road, fired shots at him and he returned fire.
The 46-year-old victim managed to wound one suspect in the exchange of gunfire, but died shortly afterwards. All the suspects, including the wounded one, fled in a getaway vehicle.

A case of murder was opened at Westville Police Station for investigation and the search of the murder suspects ensued.
The suspects allegedly took their injured accomplice to hospital and hijacked another vehicle in the Hillcrest policing area.

With the help of the tracking system, on 7 November the vehicle was recovered and three suspects were immediately arrested.
The fourth suspect (26), who had a gunshot wound, was traced to the hospital where he is being kept under police guard and has been charged with murder.
The suspects were charged for hijacking and murder. They are to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.

The injured suspect will appear in court as soon as he is released from hospital.

“The determination by the police to arrest the criminals is commended. We will continue to ensure that criminals are successfully prosecuted for their dreadful acts,” said the KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa. - Supplied.
