Andiswa Mkhize from KwaDabeka C is one of the Grade 8 pupils from Sthokozile Secondary School that has joined the programme. Andiswa first heard about the programme at Sunday school in September 2015.

“The programme has been helpful because it has increased my knowledge. I used to receive two achievement certificates previously, however I now receive four achievement certificates and an outstanding achievement award from my school.

“These certificates are for natural science, economic management science, English and Zulu.”

Cast’s communication officer Laura-Mbugua-Mwara said the environment at the centre allows Andiswa to express her feelings without fear of being judged.

Tutors ensure that pupils comprehend their lessons and understand what is expected of their teachers.
Andiswa has battled with mathematics, but since she got the help of tutors her marks have improved.

“I am grateful to the volunteers for creating a loving, caring and supportive environment that has helped me to improve in school work, and being able to identify my talent in traditional Zulu dancing.

“I am confident that my future looks bright because of this support,” said Andiswa.

Being part of the programme has taught her the importance of making notes in class.

“The notes will assist me when I’m studying or doing my homework. I have also invited pupils in my grade to join this programme because I have seen improvement in my marks and I want the same for them.”
