Operations yield pleasing results

KZN SAPS Crime Intelligence, the provincial task team, the national intervention unit and the Umhlali K9 unit conducted operations during April and May, aimed at arresting wanted criminals, seizing unlicensed firearms and rooting out the drug trade.

Operations were conducted in most areas­, including Umlazi, Umbumbulu, KwaDabeka, Inanda, Newcastle and Madadeni­. Ten suspects were arrested and charged for various crimes.

Suspects were also arrested for four murder cases, attempted murder, armed robbery, dealing in drugs, possession of dagga as well drugs, theft of motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms.

Eleven firearms - five pistols, two AK47, two 303 rifles and two shotguns were recovered and seized. Police also recovered a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was stolen in Gauteng.

The KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police on the arrests and the seizure of unlicensed firearms.

“We will continue with similar operations to keep our province safe,” she said.

All suspects appeared in different courts today. At the time of going to press the outcome of their court appearances were un-available.
