ST Johns Checkers volunteers in Pinetown were part of the clean-up that took place in Josiah Gumede Road recently.

This comes after more than 6 000 people from across the continent came together to clean their communities in more than 500 different events organised by Shoprite.

The clean-up is part of a digital platform developed jointly by the Shoprite Group and volunteerism organisation Brownie Points.

Shoprite spokesperson Patti Quinton said: “Recycling is a key component of the initiative and thus the website contains information about local recycling partners and waste management companies.

“It also gives guidance on how to organise and what to bring to a clean-up.”
