A 30-year-old police officer was arrested in Pinetown for kidnapping recently. Members of the Pinetown Crime Prevention were patrolling in the CBD when they were on Hill Street they saw a silver grey car speeding off.
They enquired from the street vendors if there’s anything wrong, they were told about a silver grey polo that came earlier and took one of the vendors who sells cigarettes on the streets.
The police started searching for the mentioned vehicle and they spotted it on Josiah Gumede Road. They approached the car and found five occupants inside.
When the police got closer to the car the driver told them he is a police officer stationed at Durban Central and he was in Pinetown to meet his informer.
On further investigation the police found out the driver and his crew kidnapped two cigarette sellers from Hill Street and told them to phone their supplier to come and bail them out with an amount of R1000.
The supplier came with the money, but the police pounced before the money was exchanged.
Upon searching the car, the police found a Z88 pistol with a filed off serial number.
The officer and his accomplice were arrested and charged with kidnapping and possession of unlicensed firearm. They are expected to appear before Pinetown Magistrate court soon.- Supplied.
