Pupils delighted with bag donation

EXPAND a Sign’s clients pledged Uzwelo schoolbags in lieu of year-end gifts to pupils from Egecekeni Primary School near Shongweni Dam.

A team from Expand a Sign visited Egecekeni Primary and handed over 50 Uzwelo schoolbags, juice and snacks to Grade R pupils.

The Uzwelo Bags initiative, spearheaded by Expand a Sign, sees thousands of meters of their waste textile fabric donated to teams of sewers from underprivileged backgrounds to make unique South African bags and earn a living that puts food on the table for their families, funds education and provides dignity and upliftment for their communities on a long-term basis.

“Our visit was incredibly special as delight exuded from these children as they each received their schoolbag,” says Tanya Bailey – Uzwelo COO.

Uzwelo’s goal is to provide 50 000 school bags to underprivileged school children this year.

“We appeal to the community to be a part of changing lives by pledging R130 to donate a new school bag to an underprivileged child. All relevant information regarding how you can get involved is on our website – www.uzwelo.co.za,” said Tanya Bailey. - Supplied.
