Robbed on a busy road during the day

A WEEK ago, my dear friends who live in Hillcrest had to drive down to Durban for business. As they approached Kloof their car started jerking as the engine misfired. My friend pulled up on the side of the road just short of a pedestrian bridge where three pedestrians were looking over at the passing traffic.

My friend got out the car and opened the bonnet, looking to see if any plug wires had come off.

Just then his wife got out the car holding her cellphone, thinking she might have to call for assistance.

While checking the engine my friend suddenly became aware of someone standing at his side and saw two men in front of him while a third man confronted his wife and wrestled her cellphone from her.

He moved to assist his wife but was held back by the two men at his side. The other man got the cellphone and ripped off her gold necklace. All three ran away leaving my friends totally traumatised.

This happened on the M13 freeway in broad daylight.

A truck driver pulled up and said he saw from a distance what was happening and asked if he could assist them, but the thugs were no longer in sight.

It is all too easy to say they should not have stopped where they did, but you never think anything like this will happen on a busy road in mid-morning.
