WITH Women’s Month just around the corner, the Hillcrest Police have extended their warm wishes to all the women in the Upper Highway area and hope that they have a wonderful and safe month.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer Captain Linzi Smith also used the opportunity to remind women to report all instances of abuse.

“With our well wishes we are reminding women that we are here to assist them in every possible way and they shouldn’t be afraid to come to us if they have issues,” she said.

The captain said the police have a zero tolerance policy on domestic violence.

“We encourage all women to report cases and to not to be afraid.”

She added that the community is encouraged to seek help from the police, who are there to protect them, saying: “We have a crisis centre that do trauma counselling and also assist with advice on protection orders and court interdicts.”

She reiterated that domestic violence is a vicious circle and the only way that it can be mended is by reporting cases: “We can’t tolerate abuse against women, which is why we are encouraging residents to come forward with any issue they might have and we will help them open heartedly,” said Smith.

In conclusion, she advised those who are afraid to come to the station to contact her directly and she’ll be able to assist in connecting them to the right person to talk to.
