Shooting in Hospital Road

2017-07-18 06:00

SHOTS were fired during an armed robbery in the Upper Highway area in the early hours of last Friday morning.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a suspect shot at an armed response officer when he responded to the scene in Hospital Road at around 3.45am.

“The suspect had earlier fired shots at workers on the property before fleeing with a computer and cellphones.
“When our officer arrived, a suspect, who was hiding behind a wall, fired a shot at him before fleeing towards nearby bushes.
“Fortunately, there were no injuries reported,” Mathios said.

“Our officer recovered the stolen computer and cellphones near the perimeter fence of the property and a black bag containing bolt cutters was also found at the scene of the crime where the suspect had forced open a security gate and a door to gain entry,” he said.

Mathios said it was unclear how many suspects had been involved in the incident.

Pinetown SAPS attended the scene.
