AT a time when most teenage girls are thinking about boys, matric dances and the latest news on their Facebook feed, there is a group of girls from Girls High School (GHS) in Pietermaritzburg that are doing everything but. They have chosen to put their energies into climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and raising funds for LIV Village. These girls are Joelle Botha, Rutendo Gora, Julie Moreno, Maria Diedrick, Taylan Mornet and Masibonge Ngcobo. And it all started with Joelle’s desire to “empower others with hope, to fulfil a dream and to help others LIV” —this in reference to her desire to see the lives of the kids at LIV Village, a village for orphaned and vulnerable children in Cottonlands near Verulam, changed for the better, as well as a desire to see individuals dare to dream and to believe that all things are possible. The girls are raising funds to cover their travel expenses, climbing gear, tips for porters as well as other expenses in addition to the fund raising for LIV Village. For more information, or to donate, contact Michele Mayer on 082 934 6940 or email@example.com — Supplied.
