ST Mary’s DSG, Kloof proudly welcomed Old Girl, Norma Young (1999) as the guest of honour­ with The Right Reverend Dino Gabriel, Anglican Bishop of Natal, for the high school awards evening on Friday, October 13.

Young is an accomplished journalist and editor who has worked in print and broadcast journalism for almost 15 years. She is also a volunteer facilitator for the Spirit of Youth.

This leadership development course, around the country, sees Grade 11 and 12 pupils from various sectors and backgrounds meet and learn and receive mentorship.

Young works at Ndalo Media and is the editor for MentorFeed, Ndalo Media­’s online mentorship and personal development service which helps people to grow further.

The awards evening recognises the achievements of the 2017 class and proved to be another successful year for the matrics of St Mary’s.

With the presentation of Old Girls awards, messages­ from guests of honour, and musical­ items by the choir, African Music Ensemble and the marimbas, it made an inspirational evening for all.

The ceremony culminated in the annual leaver’s dinner for matric girls and their parents as a thanks from the school to signify the end of the matric school year and their journey through St Mary’s.

The Burgess Shield for dux was awarded to Emma Elliott and Proxime Accessit to dux was awarded to Abigail Wilson.
