THE St Mary’s Hockey 1st team played in the KZN Spar Regional Hockey Tournament at Thomas More on 15 May and emerged victorious.

The team made it through the round-robin stage without losing a match or conceding a goal and finished with the most points.

They then went into the final against Westville Girls’ High. The final was an intense, closely contested match.

With about five minutes to go St Mary’s scored through a deflection on the far post, but it wasn't over yet because Westville won a penalty corner on full time which they needed to score to draw the match.

St Mary’s defended well and won the match 1-0. Winning this tournament means they have qualified for the Spar grand finals at St Mary’s on 23 and 24 July. - Supplied.
