THE 31 Club launched its Santa surprise hamper on October 19 at the St Agnes Anglican Church to help the Clare Ellis Brown Pre-School, a charity that it has been supporting for years.

31 Club is a non-profit organisation with its aim to raise money for charities in KwaZulu Natal. The chairperson of 31 Club, Ann Osborne, said that one of the charities they’ve been supporting for many years, the Clare Ellis Brown Pre-School, is celebrating its 70th birthday this year and they want to do something special for the children.

“The pre-school caters for 91 children between the ages of three and six years from the poorer parts of Durban. It is run by a dynamic principal, Nora Saneka, with her team of dedicated staff who face immeasurable challenges but are able to provide a safe haven for the children and prepare them for ‘big’ school,” said Osborne.

Osborne said that for the past few years, the 31 Club has been guests at the school’s end-of-year themed concert and has provided presents and a party for them. “Many tears of joy are shed at seeing what the children can achieve with very few resources. This year we decided to provide substantial personalised hampers for each child, which contain an item of clothing, toiletries, toys, stationery and a sweet treat in a reusable container,” she said.

She said she is pleading with people to consider adopting a child by filling a hamper, and each hamper will be provided with the name, gender, age and clothes’ size of the child.

In conclusion, Osborne encouraged those who might want to get involved in the project to get in contact with the 31 Club and collect the items for the hamper because they could use all the help they can get to support the children.
