TWO suspects, ages between 29 and 40 were recently sentenced to 21 years imprisonment by the Pinetown Regional Court.

Menzi Shabalala and Bongumusa Mbonambi faced charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of ammunition.

In July 2016, the robbers held two female employees at Pie City in Pinetown at gun point and demanded that they open the cash till.

They fled with cash amounting to R1170.

One of the employees cried for help and the suspects were arrested by the Metro Police.

A case of armed robbery was opened at the Pinetown Police Station and investigated by Constable Luvo Dushu.

During the investigation, it was also revealed that the two had robbed the same outlet before.

The Acting Cluster Commander of eThekwini Inner and Outer West Cluster Brigadier Gerald Singh has welcomed the sentence and said: “It sends a message to all the criminals who are still contemplating doing the same crime.”
