MOTHER-of-three and avid runner Wendy Ndlamlenze from Hillcrest is set to tackle the Comrades Marathon in aid of a local NPO- Hillcrest Aids Centre (Hact).

For this 30-year-old, sport has always been a part of her life.

“When I grew up sport was just part of my life. I love running, it’s my life. I run to escape this world. Running is my ‘me time’, the only time I listen to myself. [I get to] forget about every bad thing and focus on the good. It’s feel good time. I run to be strong, I run to challenge my limits. It is the time I know I will succeed in whatever I do,” she said.

Ndlamlenze said she’s running Comrades for Hact to give back to her community.

“They are doing a great job looking after those affected and infected by HIV/ Aids, giving them hope, teaching people a way of life and how to stand up after a fall.

“I am also inspired by the work of Hact’s Gogo Support Groups programme and the practical support it is giving thousands of grannies in need of assistance across the Valley of 1000 Hills.”

Her aim is to raise R8 700 for the programme’s activities.

She thanked her family for their support and said if it were not for them she would not be where she is today. “I am married to a lovely man who is very supportive. He always makes sure I get my time to train. He takes me to races early in the morning and cheers for me during the race. He even escorts me during my training runs and I want to thank him for everything he does.”
