THE recent Upper Highway clean-up initiative that was organised by conservationist Daniel Madhachi in conjunction with Green Ambassadors SA, was a success.

Madhachi said: “A hearty thank you to all those who participated in the 10th Upper Highway clean-up initiative.

“Local families and schools joined in to pick up trash in the Hillcrest area recently.”

The Green Ambassadors SA team thanked Madhachi for his outstanding work in running the clean-up initiative. Before the clean-up, Madhachi drove around the Hillcrest, Waterfall, Kloof and Pinetown areas to identify places that needed a clean-up. He then approached schools and community members to assist with the work and he assigned teams to specific sites.

Madhachi added: “Community members, school pupils, churches, volunteers including John Hollow, Alison Longford Hollow, Kundai Chibarabada and Norman Miller from Hillcrest High School, also helped in making the clean-up a success.

“A special ‘big-up’ to the young pupil ambassadors from Hillcrest High School who participated on this day, as well as Jesus Christ Church of the Latter Day Saints Hillcrest. We also greatly appreciate the tremendous work of Durban Solid Waster in Wyebank and also Bluesky Skips for their co-operation in picking up all the collected trash.”

He added that the clean-up initiative is an important event for Upper Highway families because this may be their children’s first involvement in community service.

The Green Ambassadors SA is grateful to the residents for their participation for making a tangible difference in protecting the town’s environment.
