THE Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA) congratulates Gretel Bell whose verge was judged the winner in the summer category for 2016.

Maggie Fleming of KHBA said it was a tough choice as home owners upped their game and have produced beautiful verges.

Fleming said Bell’s verges provided extra “sparkle” which gave her the winning edge.

“Thanks go to Bell, who tends the gardens and verges at her home on Shortlands Avenue herself, despite having a husband and family of four to care for,” said Flemming.

“The association maintains that if every home owner and business took time to care for the verge in front of their property it would transform Hillcrest into a beautiful country village.”

The KHBA also thanked Rael Lurie from Richdens Spar who donated a hamper to Bell.

Fleming and Barbara Fourie of KHBA, who worked hard to select the winning verge, presented Bell with the hamper and a certificate of recognition from the association.

Flemming hopes that more residents take a page out of Bell’s book and make their verges beautiful.

“Could we encourage those who have neglected their verges to beautify their area by spreading some TLC.”
