WATERFALL College pupils participated in a beach clean-up outside the Durban Undersea Club, organised by Roxy’s Scuba School, recently.

They collected a total of 243kg of rubbish in one morning. The initiative was a part of Waterfall College HOPE outreach activities, and pupils learnt the joy of service to the community and to the school.

The weather was hot, the wind was strong, but the yellow bags were filled with litter and weighed, thanks to MACE laboratories from UKZN, who counted and categorised all the rubbish. The pupils were amazed at the amount of rubbish beach-goers leave behind (from food wrappers to shoes, diapers and medical waste).

The day certainly raised awareness of the need to keep the beaches clean. - Supplied.
