RUNNING for 35-year-old Gareth Morgan has always been a sibling affair - his brothers Campbell and Redford have run the Comrades Marathon and now he is putting on his running shoes and following in their footsteps.

The Waterfall resident started running last year when he saw a post on Facebook about a ‘Coach to 10km course’ that Michelle Donne from Hillcrest Villagers advertised.

“This was the start for me and I’ve never looked back.

For this year’s Comrades, Gareth has prepared for the race by running non-stop - literally.

Gareth said one needs to run, and when you think you have done enough, run some more.

“I’ve been following the training programme on the Comrades website, and listening to the official Comrades coach Lindsey Parry’s webinars and has participated in his running club’s events.”

He said he decided to run this year as his brother is his inspiration.

“My brother Campbell will be running his 12th Comrades this year.

“I hope to one day follow in his footsteps,” said Gareth.

Describing himself as goal-orientated, Gareth said he is proud of his journey that he has undertook to get to this point in his running carrier.

He thanked the Hillcrest Villagers Athletic Club members for their support.

“Running in general is hard work, and to anyone who is either starting to run or has a goal in mind, just remember, it always seems impossible until its done.”
