THE icy cold winter morning did not stop the dedicated participants of the Waterfall Superspar Forest 10 race, held this past Sunday, July 15, at Forest Hills Sports Club.

Chairman of the Forest Athletic Club Richard Wallis said the Forest 10 is a relatively easy 10 km run or walk through the leafy suburb of Forest Hills in Kloof. He thanked the community for coming out in numbers to participate and support the race.

“We are really grateful to see so many people supporting the Forest 10 and we also wish to congratulate all the various winners,” he said.

In the men’s race, Simphiwe Zulu cruised through the cold weather with ease and claimed the first position. “10 km may sound like a long distance but it’s actually small however I can’t say it was an easy win, because of the cold,” said the 40-year-old.

“I’m really happy to have won the race and I’m definitely coming back next year to defend my title,” he continued.

In the women’s race, 17-year-old athletic Tayla Kavanagh didn’t seem to have a problem with the cold as she sailed to victory and claimed the first position.

The Chairman thanked everyone who made the Forest 10 possible, especially the sponsors.

“This day wouldn’t have been possible if the sponsors didn’t come through and we are grateful for their continuous support,” he said. He thanked Waterfall Spar, Spring Meadow, Asics, Watercrest Mall and the Hillcrest Fever.
