FOLLOWING the outcry by residents and the article in the Hillcrest Fever, Kloof Conservancy members and Hans Schneemann from Eco Timber Traders, has replaced the “Welcome to Kloof” sign on the M13 Pioneer Road off-ramp.

According to Kloof Conservancy chairperson Paolo Candotti, the sign was damaged when a motorist drove into it, damaging it beyond repair.

“The sign was originally installed by Ian Pattrick in 2001 as his farewell gift to Kloof Conservancy.

Pattrick made and donated it as a token of appreciation for the support the conservancy had given him as a conservation officer at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve.

“Fortunately, Kloof Conservancy members have come to our aid and a replacement sign has now been installed,” said Candotti.

Candotti said Schneemann donated the wood slab.

“This is from an alien Cedar tree harvested on a farm in the Midlands, which had to be felled as a result of a change in farming practices.

“Eco Timber Traders strive to supply timber of the highest quality that is carefully sourced from reputable sources worldwide.”

He said Kevin Williams from Vimar Timbers did the engraving and provided the support poles.

“Vimar Timbers offer a wood treatment service to companies and individuals, but also stock a wide range of treated timber products.”

Candotti said Schneemann and Williams are avid supporters of the conservancy and the 3 Falls Trail Run.

Kloof Conservancy vice-chairman, Bruce Crouch did the painting of the new sign, which took two weeks to ensure the correct application.

“We thank all responsible for the replacement of the sign. It is really a landmark for Kloof,” said Candotti.
