29 and 30 October: Kengai Bonsai Kai will be holding their annual show on Saturday and Sunday, 29 and 30 October, at the Hillcrest Primary School, 17 Emoyeni Drive, Hillcrest. The show will be open from 9am on each day. The theme for the show is “The Joy of Bonsai”. If you are an expert, a beginner, enjoy looking at trees or are just curious, you will be welcome. Not only will there be a variety of bonsai trees on show but there will be demonstrations and experts on hand to answer questions. Trees, pots and accessories will be on sale. Admission is R20 (children under 12 free).

1 November: Hillcrest Conservancy will be hosting guided walk at the Springside Nature Reserve at 7.30am. Easy walks on well-maintained paths. All welcome. Tea and coffee in the Resource Centre after the walk. For more information, email hillcrestconservancy@gmail.com

5 November: The South African Writers Circle will be hosting a one-day seminar titled “In the Footsteps of Homer: Writing an Epic Tale” at Augusta Estate, Hillcrest on 5 November. James Whyle, author of The Book of War and an M-Net Literary Award winner, will be the keynote speaker. Registration opens at 8.30am and the seminar begins at 9am. Teas and lunch is included.
