PASSIONATE business-minded Nkanyiso Mchunu (21), of Kwandengezi has always dreamt of helping disadvantaged people and so founded a non-profit organisation in 2015 - Inkanyiso Foundation - whose purpose is to provide support for the youth.

Mchunu said he was inspired by his late grandmother who also had a passion to help others.
“My grandmother was and still is my biggest inspiration. She died last November and if it wasn't for her and my mother I wouldn't be where I am today.
“My grandmother supported me when I founded my organisation because she was aware of what the community of Kwandengezi lacked. She was also a volunteer at Siyanakekela in Kwandengezi, which takes care of disabled children.

“The purpose of Inkanyiso Foundation is to provide support and mentoring programmes for the youth. We encourage them to not only focus on one sector because you find that people have other talents such as modelling, music, dancing and performing arts.
“My organisation chose to focus on the youth because we know most youngsters are problematic and are easily influenced by their peers.”

Mchunu said one of the highlights of Inkanyiso Foundation was when they donated adult nappies to eZibambeleni Centre in KwaDabeka.
“Our recent initiative was at Kwamanzini Primary in Kwandengezi when we donated 50 school shoes. We raised funds by holding a car wash in the area.”

Mchunu matriculated from Pinetown Boys’ High in 2013 and at that time he wanted to become a doctor not realising he was a businessman in waiting.
“I remember telling myself in matric that I want to study medicine, but this changed after I passed matric and I decided to study business science, which to me, is fun and interesting. At the moment I'm doing my third year at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and next year I will be doing my honours.”

He said studying business science has encouraged him to embark on various businesses.
“I'm a passionate individual and a go-getter. I am a fashion designer and manufacture for other local brands, but my main focus is designing underwear.
“I also have a food shop at Desai in Kwandengezi where we sell traditional food and its managed by my mother who also cares for the disabled by transporting them from the centre to their homes.

“I'm currently putting together a centre where I will focus on people who have various problems. At this centre I want people to share their life-changing stories because
“I believe there is life after every tragic and sad story. I was once an online motivator where people wrote their stories and my task was to change their lives through my motivations.”
Inkanyiso Foundation is planning a talent show in April when it will officially launch the organisation while people entertain by showcasing their talent.
