IT is all systems go for the third edition of the annual JBay Winterfest taking place in and around Jeffreys Bay from July 8 to 19.

The JBay Winterfest, presented by Woodlands Dairy, is the biggest festival of its kind in South Africa and attracted over 45 000 people last year - injecting over R100 million into Jeffreys Bay.

The anchor event of the festival is the JBay Open of Surfing, which brings the world’s best surfers to town, including legends like eleven time world champion Kelly Slater.

Local support will lie with South African Jordy Smith, who won two titles in Jeffreys Bay back in 2010 and 2011.

Rugby World Cup winners John Smith, Bob Skinstad and Butch James will be back in town to participate in the Oakley X-Over Challenge set to take place at Impala Ranch, the Links Golf Course and at the Point in Jeffreys Bay.

Jolly Dolphin will host the Winter MusicFest with top South African acts like Jack Parow, Taxi Violence and Desmond and the Titus.

All the events that rocked the shores of Jeffreys Bay in 2014, will be back this year with a new route planned for both the JBay Mountain Bike Open and the X-Trail Run. The Skins Fishing Competition and the Kite Festival will be taking place at the Kabeljauws Beach on July 11, as well as the MTB Open and the Trail Run.

The Billabong Junior Surf Contest will test South Africa’s best groms as they take on the powerful waves at Magna Tubes from July 13 - 17. The event will be based at the Checkers car park.

The final weekend of the JBay WinterFest will see South Africa’s toughest open water swimmers challenge the icy water of Marina Martinique when the InFood Blu Cold Water Classic takes place on July 18.

The Core Downhill Sokkie Jol will cater for the thrill seekers, who want plenty of speed and gravity defying action. The Sokkie Jol will take place at Blue Water Estate on the R102 on July 18.

South Africa’s most diverse rider, Brian Cappor, will take part in the Slake Funduro Moto-X near the Mondplaas Petrol Station on July 18.

The Funduro is a fun ride and no competitor licences or club membership are required.

“There will also be a daily photo competition where R7 500 in cash is up for grabs, compliments of Core Surf Gear. Capture a moment during the JBay WInter Fest 2015, share your photo on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tag with #?jbaywinterfest?to stand a chance to win daily prizes and a grand prize of R7 500,” says JBay Winterfest spokesperson Brenton Williams.
