Armed robbers strike near Hankey

TWO armed robbers were arrested shortly after accosting two men on the R331 between Hankey and Humansdorp at approximately 23:00 last Wednesday.

The suspects, aged 23 and 33, tied upwith cable wire two men who stopped on the roadside for refreshments, before stealing their valuables and fleeing in a blue Toyota Yaris.

The swift action from police members from Humansdorp and Thornhill led to the arrest of the two suspects on the N2 near Thornhill and the recovery of the stolen items. The K9 dog unit, furthermore recovered two firearms hidden between the engine and the dashboard of the vehicle.

The men appeared in the Hanky Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of robbery and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
